RESPIRATORY DISEASES
Respiratory diseases affect the airways and lungs. They can be acute, such as infections, or chronic, such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
When inflammation, infection, or obstruction occurs, the body’s oxygenation is disrupted and can compromise overall health. Therefore, a timely medical evaluation is key to identifying the cause and determining the appropriate treatment.
COMMON SYMPTOMS
Depending on the condition, the following may occur:
-
Persistent cough
-
Difficulty breathing
-
Tightness in the chest
-
Wheezing (whistling sound when breathing)
-
Fever
-
Fatigue
The presence of prolonged, recurrent, or activity-limiting symptoms requires specialized medical evaluation.
RISK FACTORS
Certain factors increase the likelihood of developing respiratory complications:
-
Active or passive smoking
-
Exposure to environmental pollutants
-
Recurrent respiratory infections
-
Pre-existing chronic diseases
-
Weakened immune system
COMPLICATIONS IF LEFT UNTREATED
When not properly treated, respiratory diseases can lead to respiratory failure, recurrent hospitalizations, progressive deterioration of lung function, and associated cardiovascular complications.
HOW THEY ARE DIAGNOSED
The evaluation includes a detailed medical history, a physical examination of the lungs, and, when indicated, tests such as chest X-rays or CT scans, laboratory tests, or spirometry.
TREATMENT AND FOLLOW-UP
Treatment depends on the cause and includes specific medication based on the diagnosis, management of risk factors, and, in some cases, inhaled therapy or oxygen therapy.
Regular medical follow-up allows for monitoring progress, adjusting treatment, and preventing relapses.
MY APPROACH TO RESPIRATORY MANAGEMENT
In my practice, I analyze your respiratory symptoms within the full context of your health. I evaluate your medical history, environmental factors, and associated conditions to accurately identify the cause of the problem. My goal is to help you improve your respiratory function, reduce risks, and provide you with close, ongoing support throughout your treatment.
WHAT TO BRING TO YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT?
To make the most of your initial evaluation, it is recommended that you bring recent imaging studies (if available), previous lab results, an updated list of medications, and relevant medical history.
This allows us to establish a clear diagnostic and treatment plan from the outset.
