Obesity
Obesity is a chronic, multifactorial disease characterized by excess adipose tissue that negatively impacts health. It is a medical condition associated with metabolic, inflammatory, and hormonal alterations.
Excess body fat contributes to insulin resistance, elevated blood pressure, dyslipidemia, and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Therefore, it requires a structured clinical approach and continuous medical monitoring.
SYMPTOMS AND ASSOCIATED MANIFESTATIONS
Obesity can present with:
-
Progressive weight gain
-
Frequent fatigue
-
Difficulty performing physical activity
-
Shortness of breath
-
Joint pain
It frequently coexists with type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and metabolic syndrome, which increases the risk of complications if timely intervention is not provided.
RISK FACTORS
There are factors that increase the likelihood of developing it:
-
Sedentary lifestyle
-
High-calorie and ultra-processed foods
-
Family history
-
Chronic stress
-
Hormonal imbalances
-
Sleep deprivation
COMPLICATIONS IF NOT CONTROLLED
When not properly managed, obesity can increase the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, obstructive sleep apnea, and degenerative joint disease.
HOW IS IT EVALUATED?
The medical evaluation includes calculating body mass index (BMI), measuring abdominal circumference, and performing laboratory tests such as glucose, lipid profile, and liver function tests. Overall cardiovascular risk is also assessed.
This comprehensive assessment allows us to classify the degree of obesity and design a personalized therapeutic plan.
TREATMENT AND FOLLOW-UP
Treatment is individualized and includes structured lifestyle modifications, an adapted nutritional plan, supervised physical activity, and, when indicated, pharmacological treatment.
MY APPROACH TO OBESITY MANAGEMENT
In my practice, I analyze your case holistically. I don't focus solely on your weight, but on your overall metabolic health, medical history, and associated risk factors. My goal is to help you reduce risks, improve your long-term health, and provide close and ongoing support throughout the process.
WHAT TO BRING TO THE FIRST CONSULTATION?
For a more complete assessment, it is recommended to bring recent laboratory tests, an updated list of medications, and relevant personal and family medical history.
